Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome! If you're new to Pilates equipment, we recommend beginning with the Intro to Pilates Series. This allows you to learn the fundamentals, become familiar with the equipment, and build confidence before joining group equipment classes.
Mat classes are also a wonderful place to begin and are appropriate for many beginners.
-
The Intro to Pilates Series is designed to prepare new clients for equipment classes. It includes:
Three private sessions
Two mat classes
A Pilates Journey Journal
Together, these sessions provide a strong foundation in Pilates principles, equipment safety, and movement patterns so you can transition comfortably into group classes.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Athletic wear, leggings, and fitted tops work well.
Please avoid clothing with zippers, belts, or sharp embellishments that could damage equipment.
Grip socks are not required by preferred by some practitioners.
-
Not at all!
Heartwood welcomes both beginners and experienced practitioners. Whether you're taking your very first class or returning to Pilates after years away, you'll be guided at a pace that feels appropriate for you.
-
Mat classes use your body weight, small props, and Pilates principles to build strength, mobility, balance, and body awareness.
Equipment classes incorporate reformers, towers, and other Pilates apparatus to provide both support and resistance. Equipment classes are limited to four clients, allowing for individualized attention and instruction.
-
Many clients come to Pilates seeking improved strength, mobility, and body awareness.
Please let your instructor know about any injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, or movement concerns before class. Pilates instruction is not a substitute for medical care or physical therapy. If you have questions about whether Pilates is appropriate for your situation, please consult your healthcare provider.
-
Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your scheduled class or session. This allows time to store your belongings, settle in, and begin class relaxed and ready to move.
-
Ample street parking is available throughout the neighborhood, especially around the corner on NE 28th and NE Schuyler.
Or get a warm up in and walk to the studio!
-
Classes and private sessions require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellation.
Because class sizes are small and space is limited, cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled class or session will be charged in full.
-
If a class is full, you're welcome to join the waitlist.
When a space becomes available more than two hours before class, clients will be automatically added in the order they joined the waitlist. Be sure notifications are enabled in your scheduling app so you'll know if you've been added to class.
Once you have been added, the cancellation policy applies.
