ABOUT HEARTWOOD

OUR STORY

A Place to Move, Breathe, and Connect.

Heartwood Pilates was founded on the belief that movement can help us feel stronger, more connected, and more at home in our bodies.

Named after the strong inner core of a tree, Heartwood represents the strength, resilience, and stability that Pilates helps cultivate from the inside out.

Whether you're brand new to Pilates or looking to deepen an existing practice, Heartwood offers thoughtful instruction, small classes, and a welcoming environment where you can move with confidence.

What began as a home studio, has grown into a dedicated neighborhood space designed for movement, connection, and community.

Our goal is simple: to create a studio where people feel supported, challenged, and welcomed—whether they're attending their first class or continuing a long-standing Pilates practice.

Community Focused

Heartwood is designed to be more than a workout studio - it’s a place to connect, learn, and feel at home.

Meet Maureen

Owner/Instructor

My journey to Pilates began after a back injury in 2008. What started as part of my recovery quickly became a lifelong practice and a powerful way to build strength, confidence, and resilience.

As a lifelong athlete and educator, I was drawn to the combination of movement, problem-solving, and teaching that Pilates offers. After more than a decade teaching photography at the college level, I opened Heartwood Pilates in 2018 and have been helping clients move with greater strength and ease ever since.

In 2019 I attained my Full Studio Pilates Certification through Momentum Studio and in 2020 I became a certified Level 1 and 2 MELT Method instructor.

Today I teach Pilates and MELT in Portland, combining personalized instruction with a warm, welcoming approach that meets clients wherever they are in their movement journey.

When I'm not in the studio, you'll usually find me rock climbing, hiking, snowboarding, or spending time outdoors with my family.
